It is 8:51 am and I am at my computer with the intention of “being present” I am thinking what it means to “be present” and running thoughts in my mind to try and articulate the definition.

To be present is to feel the air on my skin, as it moves across and cools the surface, feeling how wisps of my hair move with the ventilation created by the air conditioning. I am listening to the sound of the keys on my MacBook Pro, as the letters appear and are placed into words and then sentences. I bring my attention to the noise outside where the city workers are removing perfectly fine pieces of concrete sidewalk. They are ‘improving the sidewalks’ as part of the tax dollars at work. My mind wanders to the way funding is misused in government and I find that I am straying from ‘being present’. I bring myself back to the keyboard. The clocks begin striking, there are a few different clocks audible from my office and they chime not in unison, however, I know it is 9:00 o’clock. I bring myself back to the morning light at this hour, that the light has a lot of contrast due to blue skies and complete sunshine. I feel how much potential there is to make this a day full of presence. I feel good. I am calm. I am ready.
